Spreading God's Word

SINCE1932

Community Worship Center was founded out of a desire of the community to have a place to worship. Originally called Full Gospel Church, plans were made to build a church in 1931 with the doors opening in 1932. Ground was broke for our current facility in August of 1981 with multiple additions and remodels since then. In 2006 we opened our new Auditorium with a Coffee shop and converted our previous Auditorium into a Youth Center.

Our Beliefs

We believe that God has mandated for the church to be missional.

In other words, we have a purpose that has been given by God for us to

accomplish. We have adopted two primary Scriptures that define our mission:

1. The Great Commandment - Matthew 22:36-40 NIV

"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?" Jesus replied: " 'Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.' This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments."

2. The Great Commission - Matthew 28:18-20

Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.   Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."

From these scriptures, our Elders have adopted the following mission statement:

We exist to glorify God as we develop an authentic community of believers who are growing in faith and fellowship, character and commitment, ministry and mission; who in turn aggressively seek to include the spiritually lost in our circle of love and ministry so they can find Christ as their personal Savior and grow as His disciples.

My name is Shannon Waterbury and I am excited to be serving as CWC's Minister of Children and Families.  I grew up a pastor's daughter in the small town of Eustace, TX.  I professed faith in Jesus at a young age, but the Lord really took hold of my life in college.  I was surrounded by like-minded, passionate worshippers who studied and believed the God of the Bible.  The Lord awakened a passion for His word and sharing His goodness with others through worship, study and conversation.

Teaching has always been a gift and desire, so I pursued a career in education and have taught in public school in San Antonio for 5 years.  I took time off to start our family with my amazing husband, Bryan and our three precious children, Michael Paul, Tatum, and Abby.  The Lord opened up an opportunity for me to teach and disciple 2nd and 3rd graders for the past 4 years at Perryton Christian Academy.  The Lord called me to leave my PCA family to continue the work of discipling the next generation, supporting families in exercising their God-given authority to lead their children to know the love Jesus, and work with another staff passionate about seeing the Gospel transform lives here, for eternity!

Interesting facts: I taught English in China and had our 3rd child in our living room.
